LUNA, short for lunatic, returns with his third single released this year, “Minds On Fire,” via Wonda Music. From speaking in rhyme (a textbook manic symptom) to delusions of the Apocalypse, everything that LUNA does, musically, is for his own healing.
“[Minds on Fire] was inspired by the anger at being arrested and falsely convicted for assault because of how my mania was interpreted as aggression when I was just in a panic,” shares LUNA.
After being falsely charged with assault and placed in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility for the criminally insane, LUNA turned inward and developed a mindset that dissembles any notion of ego and presents an appreciation for the tenacity he’s always held as part of his identity. “Minds On Fire” finds the New York-born emcee revisiting and reflecting on his incarceration, where LUNA spent time writing rhymes to find peace.
“Minds On Fire” is a cathartic moment – you can hear it in the record’s submerging mix of rap and spoken word. It’s an exercise in narrative building and self-expression with no boundaries or parameters; a vehicle to set the record straight about what LUNA experienced behind the wall, as evidenced by the line, “That prison for the criminally insane so inhumane to sick brains that inhumane I became.”
His first release, “LUNAcy,” was a formal introduction to LUNA’s inner world. This track also sparked the first of many collaborations with 16 Grammy-nominated Haitian producer Jerry Wonda (The Fugees, Mary J.Blidge, Beyonce, Santana, John Legend), signaling a bright path for the budding talent.
Part of what makes LUNA stand out from his contemporaries is his willingness to go against the grain, coupled with a lightning-paced flow and poised presence. His previously released single, “The Twin Towers” feat. Kash Juliano, hinges on speaker-knocking percussion and haunting keys that compliment LUNA’s raw storytelling.
About LUNA clipse:
The birth of LUNA clipse started when a manic episode led to him being falsely charged with assault and placed in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility for the criminally insane. Over the years, trips to rehab and soul-searching granted a new level of clarity to LUNA’s mission. From speaking in rhyme (a textbook manic symptom) to delusions of the Apocalypse, the New York-born emcee is driven by a methodical approach to storytelling that’s for his own healing and catharsis. His first song, “LUNAcy,” is a deep dive into the darkest depths of human nature, exploring the nuances of mental illness and the often controversial world of spirituality. This track also sparked the first of many collaborations with 16 Grammy-nominated Haitian producer Jerry Wonda (The Fugees, Mary J.Blidge, Beyonce, Santana, John Legend). LUNA, short for Lunatic, was emboldened by the discovery that rap could purge his enraged, angst-ridden way of thinking while using his voice to instill a sense of healing in today’s world. LUNA has also collaborated with Havoc of Mobb Deep, Flatlinerz, Kash Juliano, Denaun Porter, Canibus, Chino XL, Vinuum Hemlock, and B.K. Habermehl to name a few. With no sign of slowing down, LUNA is gearing up for the release of his debut album LUNACY – an appropriate showcase of his artistic vision, energetic range and sheer individuality, due for release this fall.
